In 1999, five major airlines came together to modernize air travel booking. A phenomenon was born, and Orbitz launched in 2001: a departure from all travel booking experiences. We designed our site to address the consumer need for a comprehensive display of rates in a single location. Our award-winning flight search engine made it easy to find the lowest fares.
Our founding years were legendary, and we continue to nurture that ‘start-up’ spirit. We quickly created the Orbitz Care Team: a customer care center staffed with FAA veterans, pilots and air traffic controllers, all who proactively assist customers. To date, we’re still the only online travel company offering this service. And that’s just the way we like it!
Today, Orbitz is one of the top online travel sites in the U.S. We receive over eight million unique visitors a month. Our inventory includes hundreds of airlines, more than 80,000 hotels and over 15 rental car brands. Our consumer features, such as ‘Total Price’ and ‘Price Assurance’ have widened our recognition. We’ve also become a major player in corporate travel. Our top-notch sales force actively forges corporate partnerships.
